Falconry is the hunting of wild game in its natural state and habitat with a trained bird of prey.
The Ontario Hawking Club is dedicated to protecting and preserving the art of falconry in Ontario by providing communication and interaction between falconers, and by promoting high standards of practice and ethics with hunting raptors.
In addition, we are strong proponents of effective and reasonable falconry regulations. We work closely with the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry, Members of Parliament, the OFAH and other organizations to promote recognition of falconry and a legal environment in which it can flourish.
In 1998 falconry regulations were adopted for the first time in the Fish and Wildlife Conservation Act. In 2000 the regulations were amended to allow hunting of waterfowl with a raptor. In 2005, in recognition of the low impact of falconry on game populations, falconers were given a special extended hunting season. And in 2012, after many years of effort, we obtained a change in MNRF policy to allow for the use of wild raptors in recreational falconry.
Memberships run from January 1 to December 31 and follow the calendar year. Dues are $50 for single membership and $70 for family membership. A family membership consists of two adults and children under the age of 18 years. OHC membership includes membership in the Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters (OFAH) and a subscription to Ontario Out of Doors magazine. You may choose to receive a paperless e-version of the magazine or to opt out of receiving the magazine completely.
We encourage new members and apprentices to attend our annual Falconry Orientation Workshop in April. It’s a tremendous learning experience and opportunity to meet some of the most experienced falconers in Ontario. OHC Falconry Orientation Workshop
